Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday ordered what to be sent for the people affected by recent fighting in Afghanistan's Kunduz province, officials said.

Thousands fled Kunduz due to fighting between the Taliban and the Afghan security forces after the Taliban overran the city on September 28, Xinhua quoted Afghan officials as saying.

The city was retaken by the security forces after a 10-day fighting. The US-led forces also used aerial power to help the Afghan forces enter the strategically important city.

"Taking notice of the food shortage faced by the residents of Kunduz, Sharif directed the Foreign Office to arrange for transportation of a plane-load of wheat stock," the Pakistan Prime Minister's Office said.

"This measure is being taken as a goodwill gesture on behalf of the people and the government for the returning residents of Kunduz facing severe food shortage after Taliban retreat," a statement said.
