A team of Parliamentary Standing Committee on home undertook a three day trip till Friday to the international border areas of southern West Bengal and held discussions with top state officials on infrastructure development and coordination between local police and BSF to check smuggling of fake currency notes, cattle, explosives and illegal migration.
The nine-member team reached Kolkata on Wednesday, and the next day, visited areas under the Border Security Force's South Bengal Frontier area and discussed various issues with people's representatives.
They went to the BSF border out posts Panitar, Kalupota and Amudia and took stock of the border infrastructure.
BSF officers briefed the standing committee members on operational activities and problems faced by BSF during discharge of their duties.
The committee members also interacted with people of border area on issues like Border Area Development Programmes, construction of border roads, health schemes and education, a BSF release said.
They also interacted with BSF troopers as well as women constables.
On Friday, the parliamentary team deliberated with senior state government bureaucrats, and BSF officers. Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra, state Director General of Police G.M.P. Reddy, BSF's Additional Director General (eastern command) P. Singh were among those present.
