Philippines Vice President Jejomar Binay has resigned from his post after corruption charges were hurled against him, an official said on Monday.
Binay quit as chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and as Presidential Advisor on Overseas Filipino Workers' Concern, Xinhua reported.
Joey Salgado, Binay's media affairs chief, said the vice president tendered "his irrevocable resignation from the cabinet effective immediately".
Binay is facing corruption allegations for alleged overpriced projects in Makati city when he was the mayor of the place.
He had expressed his intention to run for president in 2016.
