An exhibition of Mexican photographer Adalberto Rios Szalay's images depicting his country's Unesco World Heritage sites and practices opened for the public at the Academy of Fine Arts here on Wednesday, after a show in Delhi.

"Mexico in the World Heritage" offers a glimpse into the natural spaces as well as the rich art, architecture and culture of the country, through a collection of 44 photographs.

The exhibition also depicts Mexican gastronomy and Mariachi music, which are listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by Unesco, organiser Mexican Embassy said in a statement.

Szalay's work, dedicated to documenting the biodiversity and plural cultural heritage of Latin America, has won him Unesco's Award for Excellence in Photography.

The Embassy called the exhibition a "touristic" opportunity to showcase Mexican cultural wealth in order to stimulate an Indo-Mexican exchange on heritage conservation and restoration.

With an astounding diversity of natural and cultural heritage, Mexico was home to 35 World Heritage Sites in 2018. The South American country was ranked 7th in the world in the number of heritage sites, just after India which had 37 sites listed.
