A court here on Tuesday extended, till December 2, police custody of Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amanmani Tripathi who was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Satish Kumar Arora allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to quiz Tripathi for another three days as he was presented before court after expiry of his three-day police custody.

The CBI has sought extension of custody saying that custodial interrogation is required to unearth the entire conspiracy.

However, defence counsel Khalil Ansari said that Tripathi has already been questioned for three days, therefore no further custodial interrogation was required.

Tripathi, the son of former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi and Madhumani Tripathi, who are undergoing life sentence for murder of poetess Madhumita Shukla in 2003, was arrested on Friday for the alleged murder of his wife Sara, who had reportedly died in a car accident in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad in July last year.

Followed by a complaint by Sara's mother, an FIR was registered against Tripathi, and the case later transferred to CBI.
