Irate relatives of a youth who committed suicide due to alleged police harassment attacked a police station in Telangana's Karimnagar district on Wednesday.
Tension prevailed in Manakondur village as a group attacked the police station and ransacked furniture, CCTV cameras and damaged police vehicle.
This followed the suicide of Shravan, 23. He was one of the five youths who were asked to come to the police station on Wednesday after they allegedly abused and clashed with a policeman during Dasara procession on Tuesday night.
The youths were arrested but let off with a warning. The police also asked them to come to the police station the next morning. Shravan went home and committed suicide by hanging.
Angry villagers then took out a procession with the youth's body and reached the police station demanding action against the policemen. Some of the protestors attacked the police station.
Protestors also staged a sit-in on the Karimnagar-Warangal highway, disrupting traffic for over two hours.
