Atletico Madrid announced the signing of Portuguese winger Gelson Martins on a five-year contract on Wednesday. The 23-year-old arrived at Atletico on a free transfer from Sporting CP, where he took part in 140 matches and scored 27 goals.
Martins participated in 15 of the UEFA Champions League matches and six of the UEFA Europa League, reports Efe.
He had also played with the Portuguese national team, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup, making his debut when he was only 21.
In the 2015/16 season, Martins was able to spare Sporting CP a loss in their first match of the season after scoring a penalty in the 90th minute.
Atletico described Martins as an "extraordinary" player who has much experience despite his young age.
