Delhi's principal secretary of power Thursday visited the Bawana power plant here to review its preparedness for the summer season, a Delhi government statement said.

The visit of principal secretary Arun Goyal comes a day after Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung directed the city's civic agencies to "gear up" for the summer season and ensure "proper delivery of services".

"A team of officials from Pragati Power Corporation Limited (an undertaking of Delhi government) made a detailed presentation on the progress of ongoing works at the plant," said the statement.

The Bawana plant consists of a total of six units - four gas turbine units and two steam turbines - which exclusively use sewage-treated water for its operations.

"In recent months, full capacity of the plant has not been utilized due to shortage of gas, and at present the plant can generate 350 MW of electricity," the statement said.

"With gas production likely to pick up in future, the plant is in full technical readiness to service 1,500 MW of power to Delhi," it added.
