Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday said the "Run for Martyrs" half marathon organised by the Border Security Force (BSF) is a unique way to pay a rich tribute to the martyrs.
Pradhan flagged off the "Run for Martyrs" half marathon at the Kalinga Stadium here.
"The marathon demonstrates the spirit of the people and proves the respect they have towards the police and paramilitary forces who sacrifice their lives for the country. Besides, it is increasing interest among the people for sports," said Pradhan.
The half marathon was held as part of the BSF's countrywide initiative to remember the martyrs and create a deep sense of gratitude among citizens for the brave souls.
"Every citizen of this country owes his freedom to the bravery and sacrifices of these jawans and is duty bound to respect their families," he added.
Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) R.P. Sharma said the participation of a large number of people in this mini marathon shows the bent of mind to pay homage and tributes to the martyrs.
