President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted the government and the people of Guyana on the eve of the South American country's independence day.
In his message to Guyana's Executive President David Arthur Granger, Mukherjee said: "On behalf of the government, the people of India and on my own behalf, it is my pleasure to convey warm greetings and felicitations to you, the government and the people of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the occasion of your independence day."
"I am confident that our close friendship will be further strengthened and our cooperation diversified to our mutual benefit in the years to come," the president said.
Guyana achieved independence on May 26, 1966 from Britain after being a British colony for over 150 years.
