President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted the people of Iran on the eve of Nowruz and said he was looking forward to further strengthening relations between both the countries.
In a message to the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, Mukherjee said, "On the occasion of Nowruz, I extend warm greetings and best wishes to you, the government and the friendly people of Islamic Republic of Iran."
Nowruz is Iranian New Year also known as Persian New Year which falls on the occasion of the spring equinox when the sun crosses the equator. This festival usually occurs on March 21.
Mukherjee said the close friendship and cooperation between India and Iran were built on historical, civilisational and cultural ties spanning more than two millennium.
"In modern times, our bilateral relations are defined by close and multifaceted cooperation in diverse fields."

"We look forward to developing our mutually beneficial partnership to greater heights in the coming years," the President said.
