President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday greeted the nation on Eid, expressing hope that the festival would promote fraternity and understanding in the society.
"On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I offer my greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens, and especially to our Muslim brothers and sisters in India and abroad," the President said in his message.
"The culmination of the holy month of Ramzan is a moment of celebration. May it promote fraternity and understanding in our shared society," he added.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who is currently leading an Indian Parliamentary Delegation to Belarus, Latvia and Finland, also extended her greetings to people on the occasion.
"On the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I convey my warmest greetings to all brothers and sisters. Eid-ul-Fitr symbolizes the spirit of giving, sharing and enriches our lives with the eternal values of brotherhood and empathy for the deprived," she said in a statement.
"Let us, on this auspicious occasion, pray for promoting peace, progress, happiness and prosperity for each one of us and the nation," she added.
