President Pranab Mukherjee arrived in the Andhra Pradesh capital Monday night on a two-day visit.
He arrived at the Begumpet Airport and drove to Raj Bhavan, the official residence of the Andhra Pradesh governor, where he will spend the night.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, several union and state ministers, MPs and state legislators received the president at Begumpet Airport.
Police had made tight security arrangements at the airport. Traffic was diverted on the busy road from the old airport to Raj Bhavan.
Leaders of YSR Congress Party and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will meet the president Monday night to submit memorandums over the issue of state's bifurcation.
The president will participate in the passing out parade of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers at S.V.P. National Police Academy Tuesday morning, and return to Delhi in the afternoon.
