Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be the chairperson of the 100th session of the ISC, the largest annual national science event in the country, to be held Jan 3-7 at the University of Calcutta, Kolkata.
Around 10,000 participants, including Nobel laureates and scientists from across the world, are expected to participate.
The focal theme of the session will be "Science for shaping the future of India".
A roadmap for investing science in development is the main topic for discussion.
"The centenary session is expected to serve as a platform for creating a coalition among stakeholders of science and society to pave a new path of progress for the country in the emerging global knowledge economy," the official said.
The ISC will showcase cutting-edge technologies, scientific products and services, path-breaking research and development initiatives and achievements of India's foremost and leading public and private sector organisations, government departments, research labs, educational institutions and defence services.

There will be a special sessions on Women's Science Congress.
In commemoration of the ISC's centenary year, a postal stamp would also be released.
