A prosecutor was killed in a car bomb blast in Afghanistan's Kunduz province on Sunday.

"Unidentified insurgents planted an explosive device on the car of prosecutor Mohammad Halim that exploded, killing him on the spot," Xinhua news agency quoted Abdul Wadod, the spokesman for the provincial government as saying.

An investigation has been initiated into the case, said Wadod.

Halim had served as prosecutor in the appellate court of Kunduz province for the past few years, the spokesman added.
