Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday announced a Rs.1 crore reward to anyone giving information about those involved in the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari village in Faridkot district.

Badal, who is also the state home minister, said the information on the heinous incident should be passed on to Bathinda range deputy inspector general of police Ranbir Singh Khattra.

"The informer's identity will be kept confidential," Badal said.

Badal said he has given clear-cut directions to the special investigation team (SIT) led by additional director general of police (crime) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota "to go after the perpetrators of this ghastly act and arrest them at the earliest".

At least two people were killed and nearly 70 injured on Wednesday in bloody clashes between police and Sikhs protesting against the desecration of the Sikh holy book, near Kotkapura town in Punjab's Faridkot district.
