In just over a month after the paddy procurement process began in both states, Punjab and Haryana have procured over 156 lakh tonnes, officials said on Wednesday.
In 'Green Revolution' state Punjab, over 110 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured. Of this, government agencies have procured nearly 107 lakh tonnes.
In Haryana, the paddy arrival and procurement is much higher this time compared to last year.
So far, over 46.46 lakh tonnes paddy has arrived in the grain markets of the state, compared to 32.31 lakh tonnes last year.
Government procurement agencies have purchased 39.46 lakh tonnes.
Punjab and Haryana had set procurement targets of 140 and 35 lakh tonnes this year respectively.
