The Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to veteran journalist and noted writer Kuldip Nayar (95), who passed away in New Delhi.

Similarly, tributes were paid to him by the Chief Ministers of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

The Punjab Cabinet described Nayar as a multifaceted personality, who served in different capacities as a diplomat and parliamentarian.

Recalling his remarkable services as a son of Punjab, the Cabinet said Nayar would be remembered by one and all for his efforts in strengthening Indo-Pak ties, besides fostering love, peace, brotherhood and amity between the people of both nations.

In a statement issued by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, he called Nayar an intellectual who fought for the freedom of the Press for a long period.

Through his writings, Nayar has left an indelible imprint on people, for which he would always be remembered, he said.
