As many as 35 students of an Odisha school had to be hospitalised as they fell ill after eating contaminated sweets on the occasion of 66th Republic Day celebrations.
Students of Bileigarh Primary School in the state's Bargarh district were taken ill after eating sweets that were distributed while celebrating the Republic Day in their school, an administrative official said.
The children were admitted to a nearby community health centre after developing nausea and giddiness. Some of them started vomiting.
Some of them were shifted to Bhukta Block hospital and district headquarters hospital after their condition deteriorated.
"We have collected the samples of sweets to find out the reason behind the sickness. We will examine the samples. Once we have the test results, we can identify what went wrong," said Bijay Kumar Khandayat Ray, the sub-collector of Bargarh district.
