Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi arrived here Wednesday evening after a day-long visit to Jammu.
Gandhi was accompanied by Congress general secretary Ambika Soni and state party president Saif-ud-Din Soz when he landed at the Srinagar airport.
He drove straight to the Nehru Guest House in the high-security Cheshma Shahi area of Srinagar where he is staying for the night.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in strength all along the 15-km road from the airport to the guest house, adjacent to the Raj Bhawan.
Two delegations called on the Congress leader.
One was led by Asgar Ali Karbalei, chief executive councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council. The other was headed by Nawang Rigzin Jora, a Congress minister from Leh in Ladakh region.
Gandhi has a busy schedule in the Kashmir Valley Thursday.
