The central government on Wednesday said the Indian Railways are planning to develop a dual-mode locomotive which will be able to run on both diesel and electric power.
According to Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, the Research, Design and Standards Organization (RDSO) has developed a specification for dual-mode passenger locomotive in July, 2015.
Furthermore, the specification for the dual-mode freight locomotive is under finalisation.
"Proposal for development is still under examination in the Railway Board. Prototype will be ready by March, 2017," Sinha said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha.
