Normal life was thrown out of gear in Tamil Nadu on Friday as incessant downpour since Thursday evening lashed the state.

In the state capital Chennai, people in many areas woke up to find their houses in knee-deep rainwater. The flooding also affected public transport buses and trains.

Incoming trains were delayed by several hours while many flights were rescheduled due to the downpour.

People living in waterlogged areas were forced to shift elsewhere due to accumulated rainwater. In some pockets in the city, rainwater entered homes.

"There was knee-deep water around my house. There was also threat of sewage entering the house. I have now shifted to my mother's place with my daughter," V. Nitya told IANS.

Many office-goers managed to reach bus stops and railway stations, but could not go further to their work places as public transport services were suspended.
