Rain in Himachal brings down mercury by three to four degrees

Rain in Himachal Pradesh on Monday brought down the maximum temperature three to four notches, bringing much relief from the scorching heat, said a Met department official promising more showers in the coming days.

"One or two spells of rain or thundershowers are likely on Tuesday. Maximum temperature will fall even further," the official told IANS here.

Shimla recorded a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius as against Sunday's high of 26.1 degrees Celsius. It also received 2.5 mm of rainfall.

Likewise, Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a high of 31.2 degrees Celsius, while it was 26.4 degrees Celsius at Bhuntar in Kullu district. The day temperature at Dharamsala in Kangra district was recorded at 32.2 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district experienced 13.8 degrees.

These towns on Sunday recorded maximum temperatures of 33.4 degrees Celsius, 30.6 degrees, 30.4 degrees and 19.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Una town was the hottest at 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest with a low of 4.1 degrees Celsius.
