Rains continue to lash Uttarakhand

Rains continued to lash most parts of Uttarakhand for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, officials said.

The Met Office has forecast more rains in the coming three days. A cloud burst has been reported from Kheeda in Almora where rain fed rivers swept away a cattle shed, killing many cows.

Many houses in the village have also been inundated and people are being shifted out, an official said.

Pithoragarh, Bagheshwar, Nainital, Paudi, Uttarkashi and Chamoli are also witnessing have rainfall. Following rains, the Yamunotri highway near the Jarda Khadda and Saarigaad was blocked for over two hours.

The weather department has predicted moderate to high rains in the hilly regions as well as plains in the next 24-hours.

Uttarkashi and Chamoli are likely to receive very high rains. There are also reports of snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions of Pithoragarh.

State capital Dehradun and religious cities of Rishikesh and Haridwar have also been receiving much rains in the last 24-hours and the wet spell is likely to continue for the next 48-hours.

Landslides have also been reported from some places.

A senior official of the disaster management department informed that the district magistrates have been alerted about the impending rains and that the government machinery is in the state of high alert.
