Rains lash parts of Delhi, more in store Tuesday

Parts of the capital received rains Monday night after a pleasant day that saw overcast skies and sporadic showers.

Monday began on a wet and pleasant not for Delhi residents as the city experienced light drizzle early morning and intermittent showers through the day. Parts of the city especially east Delhi were lashed by heavy rain towards the night.

The city received 2.8 mm of rain from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Monday and water-logging in some areas of east Delhi hindered traffic.

Monday's maximum temperature settled at 32.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average while the minimum was 26.3 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, the Met office has forecast more rain Tuesday.

"Light rains and thundershowers may occur in some areas of the city Tuesday," said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official.

Tuesday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 32 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Since the monsoon's arrival in June, Delhi has got 637 mm of rain, 33 percent more than average.

Sunday's maximum temperature dipped a notch below average at 33.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled two notches below average at 24.4 degrees Celsius.
