Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday discussed law and order, women's safety, anti-terror measures and community policing with Delhi Police officials and assured them help to modernise the force.
"I discussed with senior police officials about how can we modernise Delhi Police to tackle the law and order problems in the national capital," Rajnath Singh told reporters after a meeting with Commissioner of Police B.S. Bassi.
Rajnath Singh, who visited the Delhi Police headquarters at noon and stayed there for around two hours, said the central government would provide all help to the city police force in its "modernisation programme".
Home ministry officials said the minister also met other officers of special commissioner to deputy commissioner levels and was given a detailed presentation by Bassi.
Rajnath Singh, who visited the Delhi Police headquarters for the first time after taking charge, observed the central police control room and integrated command centre's functioning.
He also had a one-on-one discussion with some senior officials.

Bassi gave a presentation on some key steps introduced by police in the recent past and also apprised the minister about some of the achievements of the force.
Women's security was a key issue emphasised upon during the presentation, which also included administrative, security and traffic matters in the capital.
Issues like financial approval, manpower enhancement and clearance for some projects pending with the ministry were touched upon, while internal issues of the police force and steps needed to make it more effective and modern were also discussed.
"We gave a presentation to the home minister in which we apprised him in detail of Delhi's crime situation and some of the things we have done in the past.
"We briefed him about the functioning of Delhi Police and the home minister heard us patiently, understood the issues raised by us and then gave us guidance," Bassi told reporters after Rajnath Singh's visit.
Bassi said they briefed the minister about some pending proposals and he assured that these will be studied and action will be taken soon.
Asked whether women's security was discussed, Bassi said Rajnath Singh appreciated Delhi Police's efforts in this connection and urged them to continue the good work with enthusiasm.
According to a senior Delhi Police officer, the home minister had "encouraging words" for the force.
Delhi Police are under the administrative jurisdiction of the union home ministry.
