It was a mixed day for Indian judokas as Rajwinder Kaur clinched the bronze while Jina Devi Chongtham and Sahil Pathania missed the medal by a whisker in the Commonwealth Games being held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre here Saturday.
India are still in with a chance for another bronze as Pariskhit Kumar will face New Zealand's Jake Andrewartha in the men's +100kg bronze medal contest B later in the day.
With four judokas - Jina Devi, Sahil, Rajwinder and Parikshit - making the bronze medal play-offs, expectations were high. But Jina Devi and Sahil lost their bouts in disappointing fashion.
However, Rajwinder gave something to cheer for as she defeated Kenyan Esther Akinyi Ratugi to win the bronze in the women's +78kg category. Rajwinder won on penalties as Esther picked up three warnings.
Earlier, Jina Devi lost her women's -78kg contest to Cameroonian Hortense Mballa Atangana. The Indian picked up a shido or a warning in the 44th second and Hortense nailed it with a yuko and an ippon.
Sahil also lost his men's -100 kg match to New Zealand's Tim Slyfield. Sahil picked up two shidos and Slyfield got one but the New Zealander sealed it with an ippon.
