A police sub-inspector in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district was held for questioning following an FIR filed by the family of one of the four people killed in firing by security forces Thursday, police said.
Sub-inspector Afzal Wani of Gool police station was detained by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday following the FIR by family of Manzoor Ahmad Shan, a secondary school lecturer who was one of those killed in the firing, accusing Wani of killing Shan intentionally to settle personal scores.
"Wani has been detained for questioning," said Ramban police chief Javed Mattoo.
Police sources also said that the eight-member SIT headed by a deputy superintendent of police has served notices to the local Border Security Force camp to provide the names of the BSF personnel who were part of a party which is alleged to have roughed up the local Imam.
The SIT has also asked the BSF to present those men for questioning in next two to three days.
The killing of the four villagers had triggered widespread anger and violent protests during which scores of persons including police and paramilitary personnel were injured across the state.
