Gujarat were on the brink of a defeat against Delhi thanks to left-arm spinner Varun Sood's exploits in both the innings of their Ranji Trophy encounter at the Ferozeshah Kotla Stadium here, while veteran batsman S. Badrinath cracked 152 to help Vidarbha set a 405-run target for Rajasthan at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Varun's four for 50 helped Delhi bowl Gujarat out for 150 in the first innings, forcing the tourists to bat again. And the 24-year-old Varun continued his assault with five for 37, which reduced Gujarat to 152 for seven at stumps on day three. The Parthiv Patel-led side now trails by 123 runs.

In Jaipur, the 34-year-old Badrinath hammered his 31st First-class century to help Vidarbha put a chellenging target of 405 runs for Rajasthan. The visitors needed quick runs and they were in trouble at 19 for two when the former Tamil Nadu batsman came to the middle.

However, he showed his experience and stitched a 191-run stand with Shalabh Srivastava (75) to put Vidarbha in command. Badrinath hit 19 fours in his second century for Vidarbha. Rajasthan reached 33 for one at stumps.

In Rajkot, Sagar Jogiyani's 145 helped Saurashtra reach 308 for four in reply to Punjab's staggering 659 for seven declared. Jogiyani got good support from Arpit Vasavada (78) and the duo put up a 180-run stand for the second wicket.

At the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Bengal openers began their second innings on a positive note, having reached 129 without loss on the third day against Mumbai. They were asked to bat again following their team's dismissal for 210 runs in the first innings. Bengal now trail by 75 runs.
