Ushering in transparency in the public distribution system, the Delhi Government has decided to strictly enforce the right of ration card holders to access the inventory details as well as cash flow of ration stores across the city.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Water Minister Kapil Mishra, who holds the interim charge of Food and Civil Supplies Department.

"Any ration card holder has the right to look at the stock register, sale register, ration card register and cash memos in their respective ration stores. We will make sure that this is implemented properly," he said.

He announced that all such stores will have to put a large information board within seven days, which will clearly define the working hours of the store as well as the weekly off.

"The store will prominently display the licence number, inventory stock of all commodities and their prices in clear words outside the store," he said.

A detailed report along with photographs of the display boards will have to be sent to the ministry within seven days.

The minister added that a complaints register will also have to be maintained in each and every store.

"Apart from that, to address the grievances of the public, every Food and Supply Officer will have to conduct a public hearing on the first and third Saturday of every month. The report of the same will have to be submitted to the minister via the commissioner," he said.

All legislators will also have to conduct the monthly meeting of the ration committees, he said.

Mishra holds the interim charge of Food and Supplies Department in the absence of Imran Hussain, who is on Haj pilgrimage.
