The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Wednesday launched the Survey on Computer Software and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) exports for the period 2013-14.
The central bank said it has been conducting the annual survey since 2002-03.
As to the objective of the survey, the RBI said: "With the opening of the world economies and technological developments taking place at rapid pace, software and IT services exports and BPO (business process outsourcing) activities have gained enormous importance in India's economy."
According to RBI, the country does not have an adequate system of recording data on software and IT services exports and BPO activities, essentially for the Government of India and other agencies for taking policy initiatives for these sectors.
This apart the sharing of certain information on these sectors at the aggregate level would raise the public confidence of the international financial system in the country's economy.
The survey results are used for compilation of balance of payments (BoP) statistics. The survey collects data on various aspects of computer services exports as well as exports of ITES and BPO.
