Rebel forces from the Nuer tribe, to which former South Sudanese vice president Riek Machar belongs, have seized a military base at Bor county in Jonglei state, media reported Wednesday.
The military forces of the Nuer tribe have forced soldiers loyal to President Salva Kiir Mayardit to flee from Bor military base in Jonglei state following a sudden attack, Xinhua said citing some media reports.
"Senior officers are believed to have been killed, and the attacking forces have completely controlled the base," it added.
South Sudan Army spokesperson Philip Aguer was reported to have confirmed that there were clashes at Bor military base in Jonglei State.
"Yes, some clashes took place last night in Malualchat army base located south of Bor," said Aguer, without giving further details, according to the Paris-based Sudan Tribune website.
Violent clashes erupted Sunday night in Juba between two groups belonging to the presidential guard, according to the military.

South Sudan's presidency said in a statement that the armed clashes were a military coup attempt planned by sacked vice president Riek Machar. It also declared a state of emergency until further notice.
The military clashes in the country's capital city since Sunday night have left 26 people dead and 140 others injured, according to South Sudan's State Minister for Health Makur Korion.
But media reports said that hundreds were killed in the bloodiest clashes the Southern Sudanese capital had witnessed since the country's independence in 2011.
Deep differences emerged between two groups within the ruling SPLM after Kiir fired Machar last July.
