Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) will fund power projects in Telangana to the tune of Rs.20,000 crore, its chairman and managing director Rajeev Sharma Tuesday told Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

During a meeting with the chief minister, he said REC would fund projects of Telangana Generation Corporation (GENCO), Transmission Corporation (TRANSCO) and distribution companies.

According to a statement from the chief minister's office, REC also agreed to fund all the power projects of GENCO.

GENCO chairman and managing director D. Prabhakar Rao was also present.

KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known, discussed the power scenario with both the officials. He said that the present available production capacity of less than 5,000 MW needs to be increased through long term, short term and medium term strategies.

Prabhakar Rao told the chief minister that the state will get 2,800 MW of additional power by the end of next year from three sources. While 600 MW will be available from GENCO's plant at Bhupalpally, 1,200 MW will come from Singareni's plant at Jaipur in Adilabad district and the state will also get 1,000 MW from central station.

The GENCO official with this the state would overcome the deficiency and the additional electricity to be generated in future will make the state power surplus.
