In a major breakthrough for Andhra Pradesh police, most wanted international red sanders smuggler K. Gangi Reddy was on Sunday deported from Mauritius.

Reddy, who was detained by Interpol in Mauritius in February, was deported after a lengthy process.

Wanted in several criminal cases, Reddy was brought to Hyderabad amid tight security and arrested by police. He was later shifted to Kadapa district, where he will be presented before a court at Produttur.

Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu told reporters here that the smuggler was deported with the help of various national and international agencies.

Reddy, who was arrested in April last year in Kurnool district, had obtained bail but jumped the bail to flee the country. He flew to Dubai and from there to various places like Ghana and Madagascar.

On a request by the state police, Interpol had issued a red corner notice for him.

In March, his passport was also revoked as he had obtained it on a fake identity.

The same month, a court at Produttur issued a conviction warrant of arrest against Reddy to undergo an unspent period of sentence of 18 months and 27 days in a case of murder, in which he was convicted.

The police chief said they will probe Reddy's links with international smugglers in various countries.
