Reliance Foundation, Bajaj donate for Kerala

Reliance Foundation (RF) Chairperson Nita M. Ambani on Tuesday announced a donation of Rs 21 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, besides relief materials worth around Rs 50 crore.

Launching a multi-pronged rescue, relief and rehabilitation programme for the flood-hit state, the RF head said: "We feel duty bound as fellow citizens and as a responsible corporate foundation to fully support the efforts in the state, stand firmly with the people of Kerala in this hour of need."

Since August 14, RF teams are engaged in relief efforts in Ernakulam, Wayanad, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts.

Automobiles major Bajaj Auto announced a donation of Rs 1 crore to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund, Rs 1 core by Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha for survival kits and another Rs 50 lakh already contributed by various Bajaj Trusts.

Bajaj Auto President R.C. Maheshwari said the company aims to support at least 1,000 families with basic Humanitarian Aid Kits comprising water filters, tarpaulin sheets, nylon ropes, kitchen sets, plastic sleeping mats, blankets, towels and soaps.

The Central Railway's 90,000 staff and officers will voluntarily contribute from their salaries to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

Mumbai Dabbawalas Association President Subhash Talekar despatched a consignment of food, medicines and first aid kits with Paper N. Parcel, an app-based courier service launched by 13-year-old Tilak Mehta, which will donate a week's earning to the Chief Minister's Fund.
