Power from the plant will be distributed among industrial consumers and distribution units and help reduce the supply gap in the state.

The first 300-MW unit had achieved full load in August last year. With the commissioning of the second unit, the full 600 MW of the project will be available from the plant.

"With this, our operating capacity goes up to 1,840 MW. We are continuing to create benchmarks in building and operating large-scale power projects. Reliance Power's flagship project in Sasan is also progressing at a rapid pace and we expect to commission the first 660 MW unit of the Ultra Mega Power Project in the near future," said chief eXecutive officer J.P. Chalasani.

The Butibori plant is among the most compact-sized thermal units in the country requiring not more than 275 acres of land.
