Rescue and relief operations continued on Tuesday in flood-hit areas across Pakistan, where over 50 people have died, a media report said.

The Gilgit-Balochistan government has increased relief efforts for flood-affected people in the Chitral Valley. Ten water supply schemes that were damaged have been reconstructed, Dawn online reported.

Punjab's provincial cabinet committee has been directed by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take all measures to protect lives and property in low-lying areas along rivers.

He said adequate stock of necessary medicines should be made available in medical camps and additional boats sent to affected villages.

Relief operations are under way in Sindh's flood-hit areas of Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Kashmor and Ghotki. Over 500 villages have been submerged due to the rising water level in the Indus river.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, various organisations were making efforts to provide clean drinking water, shelter and health facilities to the affected people.

According to the meteorological department, the rains are slated to continue till Saturday.
