The Delhi government is planning to install Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFIDs) and weigh-in-motion sensors at all 13 entry points to the national capital, a government statement said on Thursday.

The move is aimed at regulating the entry of commercial vehicles in the city to check air pollution.

Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain directed RITES Ltd, a central government enterprise under Indian Railways, to prepare the bidding document so that work for installation of the devices could begin, the statement said.

The government said the RFID and weigh-in-motion devices will help in implementation of Supreme Court guidelines of levying Environmental Compensation Charge (ECC) on commercial vehicles entering the national capital.

The decision was taken in a meeting on Thursday chaired by Jain with various departments including Transport, VAT, PWD, Environment and the three municipal corporations.

The Supreme Court in November 2015 imposed an ECC of Rs 700 to Rs 1,300 on commercial diesel vehicles entering Delhi. A month later, the apex court doubled the amount.
