Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju arrived here Saturday to take stock of the law and order situation after Karbi militants gunned down a superintendent of police and his personal security officer (PSO) in Assam.
"The central government has taken the matter seriously and that is the reason I am here today. I was planning to come to Guwahati after the parliament session but due to the incident in Karbi Anglong, I have advanced my visit," said Rijiju while interacting with mediapersons at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
"I want to talk to the state government and find out what steps should be taken to stop such incidents," he said.
"I am going to have a meeting with the state government and the security agencies operating in the state today (Saturday) and find out a workable solution and strategies to secure peace in Assam," he said.
The minister also assured of the central government's readiness to assist the state government.
"I am from the northeast and I know the situation in the region. Now, since I am in the home ministry it is good for the state governments in the northeast to pursue any matter," he said.
