In a move to reduce road accidents, road safety will be taught in Jharkhand schools, said an official on Thursday.

"The Home Department has issued a letter regarding inclusion of road safety as subject in government schools. Nodal teachers will be appointed in schools who will educate the students about road safety," said the state government official to IANS.

The official said that the decision was taken in a meeting of Jharkhand Road Safety Board headed by the Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

In the meeting it was stressed that seven different departments need to work together to reduce road accidents. The departments include Education, Road and others.

"The aim is to bring down the road accidents to 50 per cent by 2020," said the official.
