"Everybody Loves Raymond" star Ray Romano says before doing stand-up comedy, he used to deliver mattresses in a truck in Manhattan.

Now, he has been cast in Martin Scorsese's debut TV show "Vinyl" as Zak Yankovich. The show revolves around 1970s New York. It will also show Scorsese's association with Mick Jagger and Terence Winter.

Talking about working for the role, Romano said in a statement: "I did not spend much time growing up in New York per se, but when I started doing stand-up comedy at the age of 20, I was there every night. And before I started doing stand-up, I delivered mattresses in a truck in Manhattan, on every street there is."

"However, in the 1970s, I was growing up in Queens and music played a huge part in my life. Even today, my iPod is filled with 1970s stuff and my wife hates it," he added.

"Vinyl" premieres in India on Wednesday on Star World Premiere HD.
