Total assets under management under the National Pension System (NPS) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) are to the tune of Rs.1,00,275 crore, the government said on Thursday.

While the central government has Rs.42,381 crore as the asset under management (AUM), the same for the different state governments is Rs.47,974 crore followed by the private sector NPS accounting for Rs.7,943 crore. The Swavalamban scheme has Rs.1,865 crore and the APY has Rs.112 crore.

The APY and NPS schemes has a subscriber base of 1,01,31,938 people.

The government is hopeful that there will be a substantial increase in the NPS and APY subscriber base by end March 2016.

NPS has been implemented for all government employees (except armed forces) under the payroll of the central government on or after January 1, 2004. Most of the states and union territories have also notified the NPS for their new employees. The scheme has also been made available to every citizen from May Day in 2009 on a voluntary basis.

In a statement, the government said this June 1 onwards, the APY has given the much required impetus to the social security schemes.
