With another strong performance on Thursday, Russia strengthened their grip on synchronised swimming at the FINA World Championships here.

As predicted, the Russian pair Svetlana Kolesnichenko and Alexandra Patskevich dominated the show to win the duet free title, as they scored 97.0000 points to give their country the fifth gold medal at this year's competition, reports Efe.

There was no surprise either on the podium, as Chinese sisters Jiang Tingting and Jiang Wenwen were second, as they scored 95.3000 points, ahead of Ukrainian Anna Voloshyna and Yelyzaveta Yakhno with 93.2667 points.

The Spanish duo of Ona Carbonell and Paula Ramirez was no match for such powerful performances, as they came fifth, 1.5 points adrift from the podium, and just behind Japanese pair Yukiki Inui and Kanami Nakamaki.

For the 23-year-old Kolesnichenko, this was her fourth gold medal at this World Championships after she won the synchronised swimming solo free title, and earned, along with Alexandra Patskevich, the duet title and technical solo crown.
