Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave away the PM's Trophy for best performing integrated steel plant to Tata Steel for 2010-2011, and to SAIL's Bhilai Steel Plant for the year 2011-12, at Rourkela.

SAIL got the trophy for a record 11th time.

Prime minister presented the award to managing director of Tata steel T.V. Narendran for the performance. The company was adjudged as the best steel plant for the eighth time since this trophy was instituted in 1992-93, said a Tata steel release.

Narendran said: "It's an honour to receive this award from our prime minister. It has always been our endeavour to set the benchmark of excellence in efficiency, quality and sustainability in all our operations."

He said this award will greatly motivate to create higher benchmarks in the steel industry and to make a meaningful contribution to society and the nation.

Congratulating the management and employees of Tata Steel for the performance in both the years, Modi expressed confidence in the company and its management, considering them as partners in his 'Make in India' mission for the nation stating the company as being true nation builders.

The release said that the company went through three rounds of rigorous assessment, adjudged by a panel of distinguished judges.
