In good news for guest teachers serving in the city, the Delhi government has decided to increase their "effective" monthly salary by up to two times, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday.

"Guest teachers, who are paid on a daily basis, effectively earn Rs 17,000-20,000 per month. We have decided to increase it to Rs 32,000-34,000," Kejriwal said at a press conference here.

Delhi government had set up a high level committee in August to consider various demands of the guest teachers in the national capital, including fixing their salaries.

Kejriwal said the committee has submitted its recommendations and these will be placed before the cabinet in the coming week.

"Another issue was to make the jobs of guest teachers permanent. We had sent the file to the Lt. Governor for the same but he returned the file," Kejriwal said.

He added that the government has made some changes in the file and it will again be sent to the LG for his approval.
