A court here extended, till Feb 26, the judicial remand of West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra, who is currently in custody in the multi-crore rupee Saradha scam.
A day after Mitra was denied bail by a court here, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Haradhan Mukherjee extended Mitra's remand by 14 days following a prayer by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel Partha Sarathi Dutta, who also submitted the case diary and related papers.
Mitra's lawyers did not seek bail.
The hearing was held in absentia as Mitra is now recuperating at the state run facility SSKM hospital, where he was admitted Wednesday.
Mitra had Wednesday moved the court of South 24 Parganas District and Sessions Judge Samaresh Prasad Chowdhury for bail, days after former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member and co-accused Srinjoy Bose was granted the relief.
Opposing the bail plea, CBI counsel K. Raghavcharyulu had called the accused minister "Money Mitra' as he said he had "sold his face" and allured poor people to invest in the company.
