Saudi Arabia is set to take action against a few satellite TV channels found to be broadcasting programmes hostile to the government and civilians, media reported Saturday.
According to officials, the culture ministry said that neighbouring states from where such channels are broadcasted, must limit their activities, Arab News reported.
Strict measure would be taken against the channels if they fail to comply.
This announcement followed the decision of former information minister, Abdel Aziz Khoja to close down the office of the 'Wesal TV' channel in Riyadh for promoting violence, hatred and sectarian division.
In Saudi Arabia, a license can be cancelled or rescinded for broadcasting programmes considered unacceptable.
The General Authority for Audio and Visual Media is responsible for monitoring programmes and ensuring that they are in compliance with the media policies of the country.
