An amnesiac Indian expatriate, who is bedridden after a road accident nine months ago, has been facing delay in repatriation with authorities involved in a blame game, media reported Thursday.
Absaruddin Abdul Bari Shaikh, a cleaner, has been bedridden with memory loss after being hit by a speeding car in south-western Saudi Arabia July 14 that left him with fatal injuries and brain concussion.
Yahya Khulufa, chairman of Sarat Ubaida municipality in Saudi Arabia's Asir province, said that it was the province's traffic department which delayed the repatriation of the worker back home, Saudi Gazette reported citing the Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Khulufa also alleged that the traffic department hid the name of the driver accused of running over Shaikh.
The chairman said the municipality was ready to repatriate the Indian worker to his home country after all the legal procedures were completed, including the settlement of his financial rights.
However, no official response was being provided by the traffic department spokesman Mohammed Asiri and its director Ayed Dakheel Allah.
Meanwhile, an official source at the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) said the NSHR was closely following the case and had asked the worker's Saudi sponsor to pay him all his outstanding dues and also pay for his ticket home, the report said.
