A 10-year-old girl died at a hospital after being allegedly ragged by senior students of her school in the northern outskirts of the city Wednesday.
According to a police complaint registered by her parents against the authorities of the private English medium school at the Dum Dum police station, the class V student was being regularly bullied by senior students.
Unable to cope with the bullying, she fell ill, the complaint said.
The girl was hospitalised last week and discharged. When she again feel ill, she was admitted to a state-run hospital where she died.
"The senior students used to bully my daughter, and had locked her in the toilet after she refused to pay them Rs.10 they had demanded," said the victim's father Santanu Das.
"She was depressed and in trauma after being bullied Sep 4. We arranged for psychriatic help but her condition went on deteriorating," he said.
However, the school authorities denied the girl was bullied or locked in the toilet.
