Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Friday announced that the second phase of prison modernisation will start in the next financial year.
"The first phase of prison modernisation was completed in March this year. Now, we will work for the second phase that will start from next financial year," Singh said.
The home minister made the announcement while attending a two-day national seminar on prison reforms organised at India Habitat Centre here.
Singh also assured that prison modernisation funds would be enhanced as compared to the first phase.
In the first phase, all the states were provided Rs.1,800 crore for prison modernisation.
The home minister also said that inmates having good conduct should be given bail as per the law to tackle with over crowding problem of prisons across the country.
